Fujifilm Canada introduces their next premium compact camera, the X10: by visionaries, for visionaries

Mississauga, ON - Fujifilm Canada is proud to announce the addition of a new premium compact camera – the Fujifilm X10 - to its digital camera line up for Fall 2011. The Fujifilm X10 features a large 2/3" 12MP EXR-CMOS sensor, a crystal clear optical viewfinder and a bright FUJINON F2.0 – F2.8 all glass lens with a smooth, high-precision manual 4X optical zoom in a stylish, eye-catching retro design.*1

The X10 is a highly advanced compact camera with specifications that follow in the footsteps of the sought after multi award-winning Fujifilm X100: the ultimate in refined design, components, functions and specification.

“We are very excited to launch the X10 following the huge success of the Fujifilm X100. The aesthetic appeal of this camera with its intuitive controls allows consumers to experience photography the way it was always meant to be,” says Greg Poole, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Imaging Products at Fujifilm Canada. “The X10 borrows a lot of the same technology and retro design of the X100 but with added features and at a more affordable price point, setting a new standard for style and quality for digital photography.”

Newly-developed large 2/3" 12MP EXR CMOS sensor and advanced EXR Processor
The X10 features a newly-developed large 2/3" 12MP EXR CMOS sensor with approximately twice the sensor area, and approximately 2.5 times the pixel area, compared to other camera models*2.

The EXR CMOS sensor combines Fujifilm's proprietary EXR sensor technology (which can select the optimum shooting mode from the three options), with CMOS sensor technology to provide bright, sharp images with exceptional low noise at high sensitivity, high speed capabilities in all scenes and lighting conditions.

SN High Sensitivity and Low Noise mode - produces clear and sharp images at high sensitivity while minimizing noise levels, and is an ideal choice for capturing night scenes or indoor situations with poor lighting.

DR Wide Dynamic Range mode - delivers an increased dynamic range (up to 1600%) while maintaining rich gradations and detail in both shadows and highlights

HR High Resolution mode - takes full advantage of the 12MP resolution to reproduce the finest details in landscape and portrait scenes, perfect for use on bright clear days

In addition the X10 features a high-speed EXR-CMOS sensor and a multi-core EXR processor which facilitates high-speed continuous shooting at up to 7 frames per second at full resolution, and 10 frames per second at 6 megapixels. A 49-point matrix contrast AF provides high-speed and high-precision auto focusing thanks to the fast CMOS capabilities and the advanced EXR Processor's AF system. With a shutter-lag of less than 0.01 seconds, the X10 can capture even the most fleeting of photo opportunities.

Newly-developed bright FUJINON F2.0 – F2.8 4x optical, manual barrel zoom lens
The X10 features a newly-developed high-resolution Super EBC FUJINON*3 lens which has been treated to reduce ghosting and lens flare promising clear image quality over the entire image. The lens consists of 11 glass lens elements in 9 groups, including 3 aspherical glass lens elements (6 sides) and 2 extra-low dispersion lens elements. The result is an ultra bright lens with a wide-angle maximum aperture of F2.0 and telephoto maximum aperture of F2.8.

Unique to the Fujifilm X10 is its all-metal lens barrel design providing ultra smooth and precision zooming, the same system utilized on only high-end professional Fujinon broadcast lenses. In addition, the camera’s power switch has been built into the manual barrel zoom to facilitate faster start-up and response times to help you avoid missed photo opportunities. The lenses are designed by FUJINON who has long-term experience supplying professional broadcasting lenses.

Featuring a newly developed Optical Image Stabilization mechanism that greatly reduces blurring (due to camera shake), you can take sharp photos in confidence, even at full telephoto zoom.

The combination of the bright F2.0 - F2.8.lens and the 7-blade aperture diaphragm capture the subject in crisp detail with a beautiful defocused “bokeh” effect.

A bright optical viewfinder with a wide viewing-angle
Fujifilm’s engineers have used an arrangement of 3 aspherical lenses plus a special dach prism configuration to deliver a viewfinder with superior brightness and a superb field of view with its extra wide viewing angle while still maintaining a compact camera size. Using an optical viewfinder vs LCD screen also enhances battery life and improves the number of shots per charge. This combined with the Manual Barrel Zoom functionality, makes a real difference and brings a welcome old-style photographic feel to the X10.

Elegant design inherited from the X100 with "made in Japan" seal of quality
Thorough attention to detail is evident as soon as you take hold of the X10’s all black stunning retro body with its “leather-like” finish. Its upper controls and base are manufactured from lightweight, ultra strong, die-cast magnesium alloy; and the mode dials and lens ring feature an aluminium milled, luxurious textured finish. The intuitive operability of the various dials and shutter-release button is also evident with the high-precision manual zooming lens doubling up as an on/off power switch reducing the start-up time, ensuring you can react quickly to potential photo shooting scenarios as they occur. The exquisite notches of the exposure compensation dial and the satisfying torque feedback on the lens barrel produced by the hidden metal ball in the click-stop mechanism ensure the quality of craftsmanship is truly apparent.

Unique functions for adjusting image quality
EXR Auto – for the automatic optimization of the sensor and the camera settings
The X10 not only offers “EXR Auto” (which adjusts camera settings to suit sunsets, blue skies, greenery, beaches, snow, etc.), and detects people and identifies difficult to photograph backlight conditions, but now, it even has the ability to detect subject movements. The intelligent EXR CMOS Sensor automatically selects the optimum shooting mode from of a total of 99 different variations; this enables it to capture any kind of scene perfectly in even the most difficult shooting conditions.

In terms of ISO settings, the X10 can capture shots between ISO 100 for well lit conditions and top picture quality, and ultra-high ISO 12800*4 for the most minimal of lighting conditions. If the correct exposure cannot be obtained with the selected ISO setting, the ISO Auto Setting function adjusts it automatically between 100 and 3200.

For those of you that like to experiment, the X10 offers Fujifilm's unique Film Simulation modes, reflecting the company's background in photographic films. Eight settings are available, including Velvia / PROVIA / ASTIA which allow you to reproduce the well-known tones of highly popular colour reversal films. TheX10 also expands the scope of photo expression with Monochrome Mode that can be fine-tuned with R / Ye / G filter settings.

In addition to Auto White Balance, the X10 provides a choice of 9 white balance presets to compensate for the colour of different light sources. Users can also set a Custom White Balance using a grey card or other surface, or select the optimum Kelvin value.

The X10 also features detailed image adjustability settings with options including "Colour" to adjust colour strength, "Highlight Tone" / "Shadow Tone" to adjust contrast in highlight / shadow sections, and "Sharpness" to sharpen or soften pixel edges.

Finally there is a Noise Reduction Adjustment function to set the strength of noise reduction at 5 different levels according to the users' emphasis on whether to prioritize high resolution or low noise.

Fujifilm Canada Introduces FinePix X100: Superior technology for the professional photographer

Mississauga, ON - Fujifilm Canada is pleased to announce the release of the new FinePix X100, a high-grade digital compact camera featuring an APS-C CMOS sensor (12.3 megapixel), a Fujinon 23mm fixed focal length F2 lens and the world's first Hybrid Viewfinder. Aimed at professional photographers or keen enthusiasts looking for outstanding image quality, the FinePix X100 is the ideal professional compact camera, especially when image quality and versatility are the primary considerations. With its luxurious design, classic curves and retro style, the FinePix X100 is unlike any other camera on the market today and is en route to becoming a revolutionary milestone in photography.

“It has always been important for Fujifilm to introduce products that are in a class of their own and with the X100, our knowledge of imaging and image quality are on full display. The combination of a hybrid viewfinder, large APS-C sensor and a precisely matched prime lens make this camera unique to anything else in the market,” says Greg Poole, vice president, Imaging Division, Fujifilm Canada Inc. “We are ecstatic about the incredible initial reaction from traditional media outlets, camera fans and pro photographers. It's great to see that a lot of people have a deep appreciation for what Fujifilm has done here.”

The development of the FinePix X100 was first announced at the Photokina Exhibition in Cologne, Germany in September 2010, where it received an enthusiastic welcome from the industry.

12.3 Megapixel APS-C CMOS Sensor and EXR Processor

The FinePix X100 features a custom 12.3 Megapixels CMOS High-Performance Sensor, optimized and developed exclusively for this model and providing a sharper image with exceptional clarity. When shooting 720p HD movies, the combination of the large-sized sensor and the large aperture F2 lens lets users shoot movies with a shallow depth of field, a capability not available in conventional compact cameras. The ideal combination of a fixed focal length lens, a high-sensitivity sensor (approximately 10 times the sensitivity of a conventional compact*) and a high-performance image processor captures high-quality images from low to high sensitivity. In standard form, the planned ISO range extends from 200 to 6400, but can be expanded to include 100 and 12,800. Users can also set the Maximum Sensitivity Setting to prevent the automatic use of high ISO.

Its new EXR Processor takes processing to new heights. Combined with the high-sensitivity sensor, the EXR Processor achieves the highest resolution, sensitivity and dynamic range ever produced by a FinePix camera, providing ultimate image quality in every single shot. The CMOS high-performance sensor and the EXR Processor’s enhanced focusing system contribute to high-speed AF performance and low shutter / shutter time lag.

High-Performance 23mm Fixed F2 Fujinon Lens

The newly developed Fujinon lens offers a focal length of 23mm (135 equivalent: 35mm) that lets users capture a wide range of subjects while maintaining high resolution and optical clarity. It also features a large F2 aperture which not only delivers both ample brightness and high contrast sensitivity, but also achieves a high level of resolution when the aperture is closed by one or two stops. Exploiting the merits of a fixed focal length, this lens delivers sharp resolution from the center to the corners of the image. The nine-blade aperture diaphragm, combined with the large F2 aperture and high-quality optics, lets users take photos with a beautiful circular soft out-of-focus (bokeh) effect.

Other benefits include:

F2 Lens - eight elements in six groups. One aspherical glass molded lens.

Macro shooting as close as 10 cm.

The built-in ND filter (equivalent f-stop reduction of 3) can be switched ON/OFF via simple in-camera settings.

World's First Hybrid Viewfinder

The FinePix X100 is the first camera featuring Fujifilm’s world first Hybrid Viewfinder technology, combining a window-type “bright frame” optical viewfinder with an electronic viewfinder system. The Hybrid Viewfinder uses an integrated prism for the 1,440,000 dot image of the optical viewfinder, which allows it to display both the shooting frame and a variety of shooting data such as shutter speed, aperture, white balance, exposure and ISO. With this ability to instantly switch between optical and electronic viewfinder, the new Hybrid Viewfinder offers the freedom to compose and play back photos in a wide range of challenging shooting conditions.

Other benefits include:

The reverse Galilean optical finder with a 0.5x magnification features all-glass elements made from high-refractive index glass, demonstrating low chromatic aberration and distortion.

In optical viewfinder (OVF) mode, the brightness of both the “bright frame” and text data is automatically adjusted according to the brightness of scene area, ensuring that shooting information is always easily and clearly viewable. Also, the displayed shooting data is constantly updated according to changes in shutter speed, exposure, sensitivity and other settings, so the user's eye never has to leave the viewfinder.

In electronic viewfinder (EVF) mode, the photographer can preview the picture or playback the result with the “through the sensor” image review and high-resolution 1,440,000-dot quality. With a flick of the one-touch lever, the user can switch to EVF to preview and confirm exposure settings, depth-of-field, and white balance – especially useful when shooting macro shots and other scenes that are hard to confirm with only an optical viewfinder.

Design

The detailed, high-quality design of the X100 was inspired by the classic beauty and feel of traditional film cameras. The top cover of the upper control deck and the bottom surface have been die-cast from magnesium alloy (semi-solid metal casting), contributing to a high-precision camera body. All dials and rings are precision milled from metal, and the traditional ‘manual’ dials let the user confirm the position of the settings without turning on the power. Design ergonomics offer the perfect balance between compact convenience and user-friendly functionality, featuring a chassis finished with high-quality leather-like accents.

The camera controls have been carefully thought out to give the photographer simple and speedy access to aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation and ISO, allowing maximum creative expression with minimum hassle. The custom modes can also be used for a one-touch change in settings.

Image Quality Enhancement Functions

In addition to Fujifilm’s original Film Simulation Modes, the FinePix X100 expands the scope of photo expression with a Monochrome Mode that can be fine-tuned with R/Ye/G filter settings. The camera also allows for separate adjustment of shadow tones and highlight tones, letting users reproduce the rich tonality of high-contrast subjects. RAW photos can be captured easily using the one-touch RAW Button and in-camera RAW file conversion.

Additional Functions

Choose between 49-point auto EVF focus area or 25-point OVF auto focus area, as well as five different focus area sizes in EVF mode.

720p HD Movie at 24fps and Stereo Sound Recording with built-in HDMI port allows user to shoot movies with aperture-priority AE and enjoy a soft, defocused background effect.

Built-in Motion Panorama to easily capture 180° and 120° panoramic photos.

4 types of bracketing functions: AE, ISO, Dynamic Range and Film Simulation.

460,000k resolution 2.8-inch LCD Screen.

Wide Dynamic Range up to 400 per cent to capture detailed contrasted scenes.

5fps Continuous Shooting.

Dedicated Hot-Shoe + TTL Flash with High Speed Sync (Built-in Flash included)

10cm Macro Mode.

FinePix X100 Premium Accessories

To complement the look and luxurious quality feel of the X100's body, a custom leather case with matching strap has been built to perfectly fit the X100. Users will also enjoy the X100 metal lens hood and adaptor ring, available separately. The adapter ring is also compatible with commercially sold 49mm filters. Two TTL-Flashes are available, the EF-20 (Guide Number:20) and the EF-42 (Guide Number:42).

The FinePix X100 will be available in March at a suggested retail price of $1,199.99 (CDN) and is offered with a 2-year Canadian Manufacturer's Warranty.
Create Your Own 3D Content with the NEW Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 Digital Camera

Mississauga, ON - Fujifilm is excited to announce the introduction of the FinePix REAL 3D W3 digital camera confirming the company’s strong commitment to leading the future in the 3D photographic imaging business. The NEW FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera lets you create your own 3D content by recording High Definition 720p 3D movies and pictures. Consumers can play them back using most 3D TV system or on the FinePix Real 3D W3’s amazing high resolution, 3.5-inch LCD screen. Following the success of the world’s first 3D digital camera launched in 2009, the FinePix REAL 3D W3 pushes the photographic limits with a unique technology to record images as seen from two perspectives, just like your eyes do, using two separate FUJINON lenses and sensors to give you realistic 3D photos and movies.

“We are really excited about Fujifilm’s second generation 3D camera. With the launch of 3DTV systems this year from every brand, consumers are starving for 3D content. Now they can create their own 3D pictures and home movies with the FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera to enjoy with their family and friends says Greg Poole, VP Sales & Marketing, Fujifilm Canada. “There are other camera brands that are trying to mimic what Fujifilm has done for 3D but only Fujifilm uses the unique, innovative, 3D realistic “two lens/CCD” technology.”

Captures High Definition 3D movies with stereo sound

Smaller, lighter, improved and now able to shoot 720pHD videos, the FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera is fully compatible with most 3DTV systems and is perfect for consumers wanting to generate and capture their special memories in 3D. With the FinePix Real 3D W3’s stereo sound recording, you can record your movies in stereo to give them stunning realism. Just connect the camera to your 3DTV system with an appropriate interface cable (sold separately), and watch your movies on a “big screen” in amazing 3D (3D glasses required with some 3DTV systems).

LCD Playback without glasses

With the FinePix Real 3D W3 you can also view your pictures and movies directly on the camera’s large, high resolution 3.5” LCD screen without the need for special 3D glasses. Fujifilm has developed leading edge LCD technology in order to display 3D images/videos without glasses and theFinePix Real 3D W3 features an amazing 3.5” high-contrast LCD with 1.1 Million pixel resolution (compared to the standard 230,000 pixels) for spectacular viewing of both 3D and regular 2D images, even in bright light.

How Fujifilm’s FinePix REAL 3D camera technology works

With its combination of two lenses, two sensors and synchronized controls, Fujifilm’s FinePix REAL 3D technology can make it seem like your images are coming to life. The 3D processor within the camera has the ability to analyze the data from the two lenses and sensors and combines these two images into one high resolution 3D image or movie, making it really simple for anyone to shoot in 3D. To mimic the human eye’s ability to see perspective and depth, the FinePix Real 3D W3 is equipped with two 3x optical zoom Fujinon lenses that shoot realistic images with as much detail as the human eye sees them.

In fact, while human eyes are generally around 64mm apart, the lenses in the FinePix Real 3D W3 are roughly 20 per cent further apart so as to maximize the impression of depth, while still producing natural-looking images. Combined with two CCD sensors, each featuring an effective resolution of 10 mega pixels, this camera captures stunningly realistic images down to the finest detail.

Advanced 3D Modes

The FinePix Real 3D W3 offers two advanced 3D shooting modes to help you capture large or distant subjects such as mountains or high-rise buildings. The Individual Shutter Mode allows you to shoot one image, then move the camera and shoot a second image, after which the camera merges and saves both images as a single 3D photo. The Interval 3D Mode helps when shooting from a moving position (e.g.: when you’re in a train, plane or car), by capturing scenes with an extra deep-3D effect by taking two successive shots from different viewpoints.

Parallax Control (3D Tuning Function)

In 3D AUTO mode, the camera automatically adjusts the “parallax” (the positioning of the two pictures on top of each other) to achieve a more readily visible and natural sense of depth. You can also manually adjust the parallax using the Parallax Control lever to easily enhance the 3D effect or correct any image misalignment in the before and after shots.

From 3D to Advanced 2D Modes

The FinePix Real 3D W3 is not just a 3D camera; it can be used as a normal “2D” camera as well. With its 10 mega pixel resolution for superb high-resolution images, 3x optical zoom lenses and a large 3.5” high resolution LCD screen, this is a solid 2D camera. On the back of the camera there is an easily accessible button which allows you to instantly switch between 2D and 3D shooting and playback at a single touch, keeping things nice and simple. The FinePix REAL 3D W3 comes with various Advanced 2D modes that allow users to benefit from the twin lenses and sensors. These modes use the lenses and sensors independently as if you were shooting two different photos of the same scene at the same instant. Enjoy Tele/Wide Simultaneous Shooting to capture a close-up and a wide angle shot at the same time or 2-colour Shooting to simultaneously create a Black and White and a colour photo from one press of the shutter. Consumers can also select Manual (M), Aperture (A) or Program Mode (P) for more creative control.

FINEPIX REAL 3D V1 3D Photo Viewer and Anticipated FUJIFILM 3D Print System

The 8” FinePix REAL 3D V1 3D photo viewer was launched in 2009 and uses FUJIFILM's FinePix REAL 3D technology to display 3D images and videos without 3D glasses. The viewer is available in Canada for a suggested retail price of CDN$499.99 Consumers will also soon be able to purchase 5” x 7” 3D prints taken with their FinePix Real 3D W3 on FUJIFILM’s www.fujifilm.ca website. See website shortly for pricing details.

3D movie and photo editing with MyFinePix Studio Software*

The MyFinePix Studio Software which comes with the FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera offers simple and straightforward editing for 3D movies and photos. The software will let you convert 3D photos (MPO) to JPEG format, or to re-merge JPEG images into an MPO image. And you can edit and combine your 3D movies quickly and easily.
* For Windows PC only. Latest Windows version (ver2.0 or higher) required - automatic web updates supported

Fujifilm Unveils Spring 2010 Collection Of Advanced Digital Cameras

February 2, 2010 (Mississauga, ON) - Fujifilm today introduced its Spring 2010 line-up of advanced digital cameras, offering Canadians more options and innovative functions than ever before for picture-perfect results every time. This new range of 12 cameras offers something for everyone, from novice photo enthusiast to expert photographer with a suite of exclusive features and all come with Fujifilm's 2 Year Canadian Warranty.

All 12 cameras shoot in High Definition (HD) image and video capture for high quality results that can be re-lived on any HD-ready television – Fujifilm is the only digital camera brand to offer HD across its entire line-up. Other new technologies include a Facebook/YouTube Easy Upload tool for quick and easy photo sharing on social networking sites and Face Recognition Technology that remembers up to eight friends or family faces for preferred focus and exposure.

“We're very excited to launch this line-up, offering Canadians more features and functionality than ever before from our entry level models to the more advanced,” says Greg Poole, V.P Imaging Division, Fujifilm Canada . “Fujifilm is a leader in developing breakthrough digital camera technology like our exclusive EXR sensor, and consumers will see that throughout the collection.”

F80EXR and Z700EXR: Compact Superzoom and Touch Screen Cameras with Award-Winning EXR Sensor

Fujifilm's F80EXR is one of two newest additions to it's line-up of highly advanced compact digital cameras with proprietary and award-winning EXR technology . Modeled on the human eye, the Super CCD EXR sensor maximizes image quality, adjusting instinctively to all lighting and scene conditions. It offers the same three EXR Priority modes ( Wide Dynamic Range , High Sensitivity and High Resolution) as its predecessors and for the ultimate in ‘point and shoot', EXR Auto mode takes the guesswork out of setting the camera by doing everything for you.

The F80EXR features a high resolution 12 megapixel EXR sensor, a large 3-inch LCD and a 10x wide-angle zoom lens, offering a hugely versatile 27-270mm range (35mm camera equivalent). It also features 720p HD image and video capture that will produce stunning, detailed images that can be enjoyed in glorious High Definition on any HD ready television* or PC. *To connect to an HD-ready TV, you will need a HD Card Reader and HDMI cable (optional extras).

It also features Fujifilm's innovative Pro-Light Mode which provides extremely low noise even when zooming in low light scenes by combining a burst of 4 high sensitivity images using High Sensitivity mode in quick succession. Using sophisticated Multi Frame T echnology, all four images are merged to create one image.

The F80EXR also includes Fujifilm's exclusive Face Recognition Technology – an upgrade to Face Detection technology that allows the user to register the faces, names and birthdays of up to eight friends and family in the camera's memory. When shooting groups, the F80EXR can be set to prioritize focus and exposure on faces that it recognizes (up to five) and will display their names on the screen as the photo is being composed. In playback mode the FinePix F80EXR's sophisticated new Image Search feature allows users to search for specific pictures by name or category.

Available in Black and Red for a suggested retail price of $299.99. For more on the F80EXR, check out the Fuji Guys videos at www.youtube.com/fujiguys or www.fujifilm.ca

A 3.5 inch touch screen display panel with “HD-like” 460k pixel resolution allows the user to effortlessly take and view photos and navigate the camera's many functions. With this responsive screen, the user can also select the area of a shot to focus on with a simple tap of a finger.
