New Medical Device in the War against Head Lice

August 17, 2010 @ 09:45AM

Lice Squad Canada Inc. introduces the latest innovation in the centuries-long battle against head lice.  Perhaps ending the need to use so many pesticides when it comes to treating children and families with head lice? “My clients are thrilled and I have had good results using this technology at some of the finest summer camps in the region” says the Company Director, Dawn Mucci. Aside from the commercially available pesticide based treatments, and some very odd home remedies and old wives tales found on line, Canadians have had limited options. Many parents and organizations are looking for natural methods such as those used within Mucci’s head lice removal franchise.

“The LouseBuster™ device has been clinically shown to kill 95% of head lice and lice eggs with one, 30-minute treatment followed by a comb out to esthetically remove the majority of lice and lice eggs that may be left in the hair,” explained Dawn Mucci, President, Lice Squad Canada Inc. Most significant is the 99.2% of lice eggs that have been shown to be killed when the device is used by a certified operator. The device uses carefully controlled heated air at a temperature much cooler than most hair dryers and at a much higher flow rate. The small size of head lice and their eggs make it difficult for them to conserve water. As such, when they are exposed to the right amount of heated air at the right temperature and for the right length of time they simply dry out and die.

The LouseBuster™ technology is based on breakthrough research conducted by evolutionary parasitologist Dr Dale Clayton, a University of Utah professor who led the development and clinical study of the device design. Commercialized by Larada Sciences, the device is now being distributed in the U.S., Canada, and many other parts of the world.

“The LouseBuster™ device is a welcome innovation. It negates the need to use pesticide treatments. It also results in faster treatment time, a higher kill rate than most available products and considerably less follow up care compared to what we currently advise,” says Mucci.

Treatment for head lice using the LouseBuster™ device is available from select Lice Squad Canada professionals, and at their training clinic near Barrie Ontario. It is also being implemented into the franchise opportunity across Canada and is for sale to organizations such as hospitals, clinics, camps and schools.  It is best used within a clinic or institution setting that deals with large populations of children and is not intended for individual home use or sale. The LouseBuster™ Device is an FDA-cleared and CE-marked medical device and as such, users must be trained and certified in its use.

The mission of Lice Squad Canada is to dispel the stigma associated with head lice and to stop the over use and abuse of pesticides on children and our planet.  We place a big emphasis on education and teaching our clients The Facts of Lice. There is so much misleading and inaccurate information out there about how to treat head lice and a real potential to cause harm if trying some of the things suggested on web sites and by well meaning advice from others. Sage Lice Advice is what Lice Squad aims to provide Canadian families. To get a free head lice help kit and other helpful resource materials contact the company web site under latest news.
