Clinton Shard is a 16-year-old Crohn’s disease patient and high school student from Squamish, B.C. His involvement with I.D.E.A.S. and the Seven Summits campaign began after hearing Rob speak at an educational event for IBD patients and their families at BC Children’s Hospital. Clinton was inspired by Rob’s own struggle with Crohn’s and realized no matter what obstacles you face you can achieve anything you want - even climb mountains.
When Clinton was diagnosed with Crohn’s at age 12 he was forced to give up the things he loved like playing soccer, mountain climbing and hiking. He never imagined he could be active again, let alone climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Fortunately for Clinton, with the help of the doctors and nurses at BC Children’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital he was able to find a treatment that works for him, and now has the freedom to return to his normal activities.
Rob and the Seven Summits campaign taught Clinton that Crohn’s may be a part of your life, but it doesn’t define who you are or limit what you can accomplish.
