A water engine on the St. Lawrence for whale watching cruises

June 09, 2009 @ 01:30PM

Québec, June 9, 2009 – Croisière Charlevoix proudly announces that the engines of the Grand Charlevoix, a boat built in the province of Québec by the Recherches et Travaux Maritimes Construction (RTMC) shipyards are now fitted out with a new very ecological water system, a major first on the St. Lawrence and in Canada as well. That's what Mr. Pierre Tremblay, Croisière Charlevoix Vice-president announced, during a demonstration of this new technology in the Port of Québec City.

By integrating this new water system, the percentage of pollution generated by the Grand Charlevoix will decrease by over 80 % (NOx: measure of the harmful effects of pollution on the environment), thereby delivering a happy mixture of ecology and economy. The diesel fuel consumption and CO2 production will be reduced by more than 30%.

The development and implementation of this new system were done in Charlevoix. Already, thanks to it's Alpha Power Jet drive, low diesel fuel consumption, low noise and low wave-generating profile, the use of recyclable materials in it's manufacture and the recovery and processing of waste water aboard, the Grand Charlevoix's features make it by far the most ecological whale watching cruise boat in Charlevoix.

The functioning of the engines thus includes diesel fuel and a water feeding system.

Please take note that all the Croisière Charlevoix boats, four Zodiacs and of course, the Grand Charlevoix, are water powered by the addition of these new systems.

Welcome aboard the Grand Charlevoix or the Croisière Charlevoix Zodiacs: a nature experience at it's ecological best. Boarding for these cruises is at Saint-Siméon, the whale watching capital.
