Ted Rogers School of Management and CMC-Canada Launch Professional Program in Management Consulting

September 16, 2010 @ 04:45PM

TORONTO -- September 16, 2010 -- Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) and the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CMC-Canada) today announced they will offer a new Professional Program in Management Consulting commencing October 2010. The professional program – the only one of its kind in Canada – will be offered through Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management in Toronto.

The decision to launch the program was based on a growing trend toward management consulting as a career choice in Canada – students, professionals switching careers, and those re-entering the workforce in mid-life are increasingly choosing management consulting as a profession.

Dr. Ken Jones, Dean of the Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, says that part of Ryerson’s mandate is to focus on applied learning and connecting students directly with industries. “The professional program in management consulting – coupled with the CMC designation – will give students an extra edge, fuelled by industry relevance, in the marketplace,” states Jones. “This type of professional program offers students value ‘beyond the degree’ – and offering students as many options to gain an advantage is important to Ryerson.”

The curriculum for the professional program includes: three core program courses: Management Consulting Essentials; Professional Code of Conduct and Social Responsibility; and Successful Consulting Project Implementation, plus three elective program courses on topics such as interpersonal relationships, building and sustaining business, and communications, and one capstone course, a client engagement project or case study, customized to each student. Components of the curriculum meet all educational and some of the experiential requirements toward the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation, administered by CMC-Canada. Students will be offered opportunities to network with members of CMC-Canada and are encouraged to complete the CMC designation program after completing the Management Consulting Professional Program.

CMC-Canada spokesperson Rainer Beltzner, FCMC, points out, “A partnership with TRSM on the Management Consulting Professional Program allows CMC-Canada to address the needs of our stakeholders. We will advance the profession in Canada by providing members robust hybrid learning opportunities and firms the ability to enhance talent management strategies as they attract and retain young talent.”

The program will launch in early October 2010; registration is open.  Enquiries should be sent to Gloria Allen at gallen@ryerson.ca

This is great - congrats to TRSM and CMC-Canada for putting together this much needed professional program.

To bring together all of the educational requirements of the Certified Management Consultant designation is an amazing achievement.

I hope all who are engaged in and with the profession (external or internal consultant - provider or purchaser) take advantage of this comprehensive offering.

Congratulations to the Ted Rogers School of Management - wonderful to have my old alma matter on board and working with CMC-Canada. Just a small correction to your release, the professional program in management consulting is now the fourth in Canada, following on the first one set up at Saint Mary's University in the Sobey School of Business in 2002 and closely followed by programs at the University of Ottawa and Royal Roads in Victoria BC.

    Good luck with the program.
